Care and Maintenance
Teak Furniture
Is teak furniture durable?
Our teak furniture is crafted from sustainably plantation grown Grade A teak of the highest quality. Exceptionally weather-resistant, teak is impervious to sun, rain, and snow, making it suitable for diverse climates, including salt-air environments.
Teak furniture does not require any special maintenance routine apart from occasional cleaning. Left to age naturally outside, teak outdoor furniture will turn a handsome silver-gray color. When cared for properly, teak will maintain its good looks and structural integrity for many years.
What can I expect from teak furniture?
When your teak furniture is first put outside water spots or other discoloration may occur during the weathering process. These will even out with time and with periodic cleaning, the furniture will achieve a uniform silver-gray.
Teak contains natural oils that can leave marks on cushion and sling fabric. Expect some of this oil to surface after the first few rainfalls. For chairs with slings, particularly white slings, simply pull them out from underneath the teak table. Once the furniture has begun to develop a silver-gray patina, it is no longer necessary to keep the chairs pulled away from the table.
Teak is a natural material. As such, you may see fine cracks appear in the end grain of components. Such fine cracks are normal and will not affect the life or durability of your teak outdoor furniture.
How do I care for teak?
Clean your teak furniture once or twice a year, usually before you store it or as soon as it is put out in the spring. We use a solution of 1-2 cups bleach, 2 gallons of water, ¼ cup liquid dish detergent. Wash using a scrub brush and then rinse off the water. This solution can also be used on furniture slings. Do not spray the teak with a high-pressure hose or power washer as high pressure can erode the wood and cause a rough texture.
Although teak wood itself does not mildew, mildew can sometimes grow on dirt and other foreign substances that have not been removed from the wood. This is more common in humid seaside climates. If this occurs, follow the above cleaning instructions immediately. Do not let the mildew remain on the wood for too long, as doing so could cause stains that are difficult to remove.

Umbrellas
How do I care for my outdoor umbrellas?
Umbrellas should always be closed during windy conditions. Please note windy conditions can occur in otherwise fair, sunny weather. When unattended the umbrella structure should always be left in the closed position with the canopy folded and securely strapped. If very extreme weather conditions are anticipated, the umbrella structure should first be lowered, folded properly, strapped and placed in the cover bag. Then the entire umbrella should be removed from the base and stored in a clean, dry location.
